Paul Halwax

Solo-Tubist der Wiener Philharmoniker

Paul Halwax is the first solo tubist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the orchestra of the Vienna state opera and was the youngest tuba player who was ever accepted at the VPO. He is also professor at the renowned music universitiy of Detmold (Germany) and at the MUK, the conservatory of the city of Vienna.

Paul Halwax is member of the chamber music formation of the the VPO “ensemble 11” and “Wiener Brass ensemble” and he is founding member of the ensemble “Phil Blech” with whom he recorded two albums for Deutsche Grammophon.

Since 2022 he is co-founder of „The Philharmonic Brass“, the ensemble recorded two Albums „Overture“ under Maestro Tugan Sokhiev and „Italiana“ under Maestro Riccardo Muti.

With the VPO he played under the baton of the best conductors of our time, as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Metha, Mariss Jansons, Christian Thielemann, Franz WelserMöst, Valeriy Gergiev and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Countless are the recordings of concerts and operas he performed with the VPO, with many different conductors and in the concert halls of the world, as Tokio, New York and Los Angeles, Shanghai, Rome and Milan, Rio de Janeiro and Seoul, Bombay, Macao and Abu Dhabi.

Concerts as a soloist and chamber musician complete his musical activity.

Paul Halwax is also official ambassador for Melton, the famous tuba builder from Germany, where he also designed and created his own custom tuba model.
