Jose Vicente Climent

Professor of tuba and chamber music at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Aragon

José Vicente Climent began his musical studies at the age of 8 at the “José Cardona Lahoz” Music School in Llombai, where he completed his elementary level. He continued his education at the “Perfecto García Chornet” Conservatory, earning his Professional Music Degree along with the Extraordinary End-of-Degree Award under the guidance of professors Norberto Ferrer and Miguel A. Calvo. In 2013, he obtained his Higher Degree in Music from the “Joaquín Rodrigo” Superior Conservatory of Music in Valencia, graduating with the highest honors (Matrícula de Honor) in Tuba, Orchestra, and Chamber Music under the tutelage of professors Miguel Fabra and José Manuel Miñana. At the same time, he trained at the SBLM Tuba Studio, studying with Vicente López, Ramiro Tejero, and Sergio Finca.

Currently, he is Professor of Tuba and Chamber Music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón. He is also a member of the tuba substitute list for the Córdoba Orchestra, Oviedo Filarmonía Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band, Bilbao Municipal Band, and Santander Municipal Band. He has been part of several prominent youth orchestras such as JONDE, JOGV, JONC, ORJM, and OSR. He has also performed in numerous concerts with the Orchestra of the Valencian Community (Palau de les Arts), the OCV, the Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Spanish National Orchestra (ONE), the Córdoba Orchestra (ODC), the National Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), the Kingdom of Aragón Orchestra (ORA), the Extremadura Orchestra (OEX), and the Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band (BSMM).

In 2017, as a member of the prestigious brass quintet “Spanish Brass Luur Metalls,” he toured internationally, giving masterclasses and concerts at institutions such as the San Francisco Conservatory, University of Austin (Texas), various schools in Napa and Miami (USA), the Higher School of Music and Dance of Monterrey (Mexico), and the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory (France). In 2018, he toured several cities in China with the brass quintet “Immensity Brass.”

Throughout his career, José Vicente Climent has performed as a soloist with various symphonic orchestras, chamber ensembles, wind bands, and with piano accompaniment. In July 2016, he premiered Jesús Santandreu’s work Lower the Tone for tuba and wind band at the Palau de la Música in Valencia, and in February 2017, he performed the same piece with the Alicante Municipal Symphonic Band (BSMA) at the ADDA (Auditorio de la Diputación de Alicante).

He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including being a finalist in the Tuba Solo Competition of Radio France Orchestra, 1st Prize in the “Artist Category” of the AETYB Tuba Competition, 1st Prize in the National Tuba Competition of Vila Joiosa, 1st Prize in the “Valeriano Machí Esparza” Chamber Music Competition in Benimodo, 2nd Prize in the Albox (Almería) Chamber Music Competition, and 2nd Prize in the Villa d’Altea Tuba Competition. As a founding member of the brass quintet “Back to Brass,” he has given classes and concerts nationally and internationally, and he also organizes the annual “Back to Brass Festival” in Llosa de Ranes. His discography includes Enganxats a Monk and Back to Styles. José Vicente Climent is a Buffet Crampon artist and performs on B&S and Melton instruments.
