Paul Halwax

Principal Tuba of the Wiener Philharmoniker

Principal tuba of the Vienna Philharmonic, Paul Halwax studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. Nikolaus Schafferer. Paul Halwax completed his concert studies for bass tuba in 2000 with unanimous distinction. Further studies led him to Prof. Walter Hilgers (Weimar), Michael Lindt (Sweden), Samuel Pilafian (USA), Jon Sass (Vienna), etc.

After successful audition in September 1997 engaged at the Vienna State Opera. In 2001 he was accepted into the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Paul Halwax participates in numerous chamber music formations of the Vienna Philharmonic, “Trompeterchor”, “Ensemble11”, “Wien Brass Ensemble”, etc.

In 2000 Paul Halwax began his teaching activities at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität. Since 2008 he leads the kons.wien.brass ensemble and since 2010 he is a lecturer for tuba and low brass section rehearsals at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold (Germany).
